The King Lives On!

We were in the tri-state area and we could easily visit three states here.  We visited two. We took another road trip.  This one was in in Memphis, Tennessee.

We went to visit the first and only home that Elvis Presley purchased.  It is a small estate of 13 acres.  He paid $100,000. for it.

He had his office there, he played some music, he raised horses and played with toys.  He had everything.  They have a huge display of everything.

It's kind of fun to see his collections of car, boats and planes.

Snowmachine with $43. wheel add-on

They also have on display his records and awards.

You can also eat his favorite, peanut butter and banana sandwich. We opted for pizza.

My favorite was seeing his stage costumes. Here is his last one.

His collection is pretty impressive, considering that he only did it for 22 years.

We also visited Corinth, MS for groceries and to pick up our rental car.  Found this quaint breakfast place.  Probably been here since the Civil War as other places in this area.

We also went to Shiloh,TN,  at the National Battlefield of the greatest civil war battle.  It was a somber experience.

We drove to Iuka, MS to pick up bread and wine.  Turns out they don't sell any liquor on Sunday.  Reminded me when we were younger.  Nothing was open except this grocery/hardware store.

On Monday, we went to Savanna, TN. We drove over the Pickwick Dam. Fun since we rode past on our boat a few days ago.  It was a different perspective.  We were able to stock up on wine and beer. The captain is happy since we are off tomorrow.

We are leaving the bible belt and for another three days on the hook.  We will be anchoring off the Tenn-Tom river on our 350 mile journey to Mobile, AL.

Heartland of America

Foggy morning
Well we are travelling slowly down the various rivers towards the Gulf of Mexico. If you look at the map it appears that we were in the heart of the USA.  It's starting to be prettier here, with the undulating hills.  The water is clearer and we almost feel like jumping in.  The people are friendly here too.

We spent a week in Grand Rivers, Kentucky.  It was a chance to rest, clean the boat and visit the area. From there we visited Nashville and that was fun as per my last post.

Green Turtle Bay Resort

Grand Rivers is a nice village. We stayed at a resort and they had everything in a picturesque setting.  I was able to take long walks. We ate well, made friends, did some shopping. They had their Harvest Moon Festival.  Parade, vendors, food and free concert.

I saw four deers on one walk at the resort.  Here's a curious one.

Had to detour past these two geese while enjoying another walk.

When we left, we anchored three nights to get to the next lock. Dry Fork Creek, Lick Creek and Wolf Island. Anchorages means the barbecue is out. It's nice to eat well.   We have seen  many bald Eagles flying over us. Our friends saw deers and a wolf.  Also fog pictures.  It seems to be a natural occurance now as the weather changes.

In just one night, look at my bike!
Must be this guy...

Today we have another road trip planned, so we tell you all about it soon!

We have travelled on Barkley Lake, Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River. Here's our map so far.

Nashville Tennessee

We drove 200 miles to Nashville for an overnight trip. It was a bit rushed but it was worth it.  We saw more then we wanted to see.

Nashville Skyline. We arrived in the rain.

Johnny Cash Museum

First stop was the Johnny Cash museum. It was great to see the picture of his life.  Here are some of his numerous album covers.

After we visited Broadway street, with it's colorful signs. They have all kinds of bars with live entertainment, candy stores, and record stores.  Even visited Nudies with it's 100 foot bar top.

Bonus, Tootsies the famous local bar was celebrating it's 57th anniversary with a street party on Broadway.  On stage we saw  the pre game pep rally from the local cheerleaders of the Predators. They also had live entertainment until 2 am. We stayed a bit but we had places to go.

We took a taxi to the Grand Ole Oprey for an amazing show. If you ever have the chance to watch Keith Urban live do it!

The next day we visited the Country Hall of Fame.  It's country music overload.  Well worth its admission price.
Part of the collection of albums.

Roger Miller was a great musician.

We had lunch at Tootsies a famous local bar. It was delicious.  It is a three story museum of country legends with a live band on each floor.

BRITT 2014 written on top.

Famous guests!
On the top floor it was three famous singers. I did not know them but I thought Brad Paisley was there. They were rehearsing for something.

It was sad to leave. If you like country music go to Nashville.  Now back to the boat.  This quote was in the Museum. I thought it was appropriate with music and boating.
